‘The Wolverine 2’ Cast Rumors: Hugh Jackman Admits That Recasting Is Inevitable! But He's In 'Better Shape Now' Than When He Shot The First One!

Hugh Jackman is Wolverine, and Wolverine is Hugh Jackman. It's one of the iconic casting choices that is hard to let go of. But you have an aging, mortal man playing a 200 year-old character that cannot die.

Obviously, something's got to give. Jackman is ever the professional and is doing a marvelous job of keeping himself fit to play the character, but he does not have a healing factor not Adamantium laced-bones. He also has other roles both as an actor and a human being.

There are great examples of characters becoming immortal through different actors portraying them: James Bond and Batman are the foremost examples. However, James Bond is arguably a code name, not a real person according to a much maligned fan theory.

However, there seems to be no way that Fox will retire Wolverine anytime soon. They will continue making movies with Wolverine, with or without Hugh.

Jackman had a chat with IGN, and they asked whether the idea was brought up to him. He candidly responds:  "I'm sure they had the discussion. They didn't mention it to me, obviously! [Laughs] Look, that's inevitable, man. Anyone who thinks they're indispensable in this business is fooling themselves. But I feel unbelievably blessed to have this part. I never thought in a million years I'd get to play him seven times. Every day I walk on the set with the claws and the hair, I thank my lucky stars. I don't take any of it for granted. To think that in a second version we'd have this cast and this director, and you guys don't know the script, but I would say probably the best script of all of them, is pretty amazing. I think that's why I'm still here. I'm sure by the way, that it won't always be my decision to always be here. At some point, someone will close the door on me... [Laughs]."

However, it probably won't be the near future: "I spent a year preparing for that and we shot that for six months and six months later here we are, or five months later. So in a way, physically in terms of the look of the character, I'm probably in better shape than I was for The Wolverine, which has surprised me. But all the action in this, we've done a little bit of it but most of it is yet to come. So right now, I'm feeling pretty good, but I'm sure my body will be beaten up pretty soon!"

On a recent set visit to "Days of Future Past" Joblo talked to Jackman about DOFP being the last time: "When I first heard about [DAYS OF FUTURE PAST], I said yes on the phone because this is a slam-dunk. And part of me was, 'Ah... I'm doing Wolverine, do I want to do it again?' But there was no way I was ever going to say no, without even seeing the script, with Bryan in a story with everyone involved. Who knows, this may be my last time playing it? And if it is, it couldn't be a better way to wrap it up."Hugh Jackman is Wolverine, and Wolverine is Hugh Jackman. It's one of the iconic casting choices that is hard to let go of.
