Twitter Crash, Oscars 2014 Most Retweeted Selfie By Academy Awards Host Ellen DeGeneres Broke Records; Star-Studded Pic Incl. Meryl Street, Jennifer Lawrence, Bradley Cooper

Twitter Crash: Oscars 2014 host Ellen DeGeneres crashed Twitter for 20 minutes, thanks to a star-studded selfie that’s one for the books. As E! Online reported, the Oscar host correctly predicted that her selfie would temporarily take down the information network’s servers.

The now famous selfie, which at press time has received more than 2.5 million retweets, features 18-time Academy Awards nominee Meryl Streep, Jennifer Lawrence, Channing Tatum, Julia Roberts, Kevin Spacey, Bradley Cooper, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie. It also featured Best Supporting Actress winner Lupita Nyong’o and her brother, who happens to be the most prominent in the Twitter-crashing snapshot.

“I thought it would crash,” DeGeneres said, as reported by E! Online. “But I didn’t know everyone would do it. What’s funny is that Lupita’s brother is the most prominent. And then Jared came running over to be in it. And Angie got in it. I didn’t expect all that.”

The talk show host told Bradley Cooper, who took the image with a Samsung Galaxy Note 3, that her original plan was to cut Meryl Streep’s head out of the picture. “That was going to be the joke,” she said. “But it doesn’t matter. It was just great.”

Lupita’s brother, Peter Nyong’o, photobombed the star-studded selfie and the “12 Years a Slave” actress was more than happy for her sibling.

"I think that's his win for sure," the 31-year-old Oscar winner said. "He got into the most famous selfie in the world. I'm glad I could have facilitated that."

According to Nielsen, the 86th Academy Awards telecast on ABC drew 43 million viewers on average, it’s biggest audience in 10 years. Nielsen’s Social Guide reported that the telecast drew a total of 11.2 million tweets.
