NBA Overrated Players: Rajon Rondo, Deron Williams Have Their Best Days Behind Them? New Generation Of Point Guards Take Over East!

The NBA values team success over individual effort. Sometimes, being on a good team makes a player look good. Is that the case for Rajon Rondo and Deron Williams?

There are always questions on the value of a player. Some players fill out stat sheets because they are on bad teams. There are also times when the opposite holds true. A player is good because of his teammates or a good coaching system.

ESPN released a list of the most overrated players according to scouts. These scouts have the full-time task of evaluating talent. Some of the results may surprise the casual fan:

"Rajon Rondo - Eastern Conference scout: "Three years ago, I was the only scout saying Rondo is overrated, and I was crucified for it. I was saying he was awful. I think he's a selfish player. He's only going to pass it to you if he thinks he can get an assist. I've seen him come out for pregame warm-ups with his shoes untied, shooting lefty foul shots. For him to come out for a game with that attitude makes me question his work ethic. I've never liked his game.

"If you play with Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce and Ray Allen at close to their peak, they're going to raise everyone's game. Defensively, Rondo's a bit of a gambler, and I don't think his defense is all that. If I was starting a team and had my choice of any point guard, he would be 40th. I mean it. I'd take some backups before him."

Those were strong words against Rondo. But the fact that the Boston Celtics are bent on trading him (just waiting for the right value) says a lot. No one believes that Rondo is the cornerstone of the franchise. He's just not good enough.

"Deron Williams - Eastern Conference scout: "I think his best days are behind him. I've watched him the last two years, and this is not the D-Will I remember in Utah, who I thought was maybe the best point guard in the NBA. I actually think Shaun Livingston is running the team better than Williams is right now. Maybe when Deron gets healthy, he'll get it back. But he's been playing this way for the last two years. I don't think he'll ever be the player he used to be."

Many Brooklyn fans have also picked up this sentiment. He thrived in the pick and roll with the Utah Jazz under coach Jerry Sloan. He had Carlos Boozer as his running mate. Both players are now overpaid with bloated contracts based on their performance in Utah. They made a mistake when they let go of Sloan after 22 seasons because of a confrontation with Williams. They corrected that mistake by trading Deron Williams and getting a ton of assets, specifically Derrick Favors, for him. He has not played at an All-Star level ever since he left Utah.

The future of the East belongs to the young point guards. While Rondo and Williams are not old, new blood like Kyrie Irving and John Wall will push them out of the All-Star conversation.
