'Some' Storms Its Way Past 2NE1 and Girl's Generation

Let's take a break from 2NE1 and Girls' Generation. What else is going on in the music industry?

Despite the popularity of these two girl groups, nothing was able to stop the rise of Soyou and JungGiGo's new single "Some". Amassing popularity at an exponential rate, this new track has already topped several online music charts as well as won first place consecutively on music programs.

SISTAR member Soyou together with hip-hop musician JungGiGo released their new single "Some" on February 7th. Marking Starship X's second collaboration, "Some" is a medium-tempo, duet song. Together with the vocals of Soyou and JungGiGo, the single is made complete with the featuring of Geeks's Lil Boi. "Some" is a song about the feelings between a girl and a boy who are at the pre-relationship stage. The term 'some' is a widely used slang word in Korea, mostly by teenagers and young adults, that refers to the developing feelings between two people. Because the term has been popularized, audiences can relate to the song and its lyrics easily.

After the release of "Some", it is not an exaggeration to say that it took the music scene by storm. This is supported by the fact that Soyou and JungGiGo's new single has topped the MelOn chart, which occupies 60% of the music industry in terms of online music downloads and streaming. Girls' Generations "Mr. Mr." and 2NE1's "Come Back Home" were able to top the chart shortly after their release but failed to stay there for 48 hours.

In turn, "Some" recovered its number 1 spot on MelOn's real-time chart and even topped the daily chart as well. 'Some', in addition, won several awards in music programs. These include the award for the February 19th broadcast of MBC MUSIC's "Show Champion" as well as the award for MNet's "M! Countdown" on the 20th, KBS2's "Music Bank" on the 21st, MBC's "Show! Music Core" on the 22nd and SBS's "Inkigayo" on the 23rd.
