NBA Free Agents 2014: Miami Heat Big Three Are All Free Agents But For Different Reasons! Will They All Stay?

The Miami Heat 'Big Three' all have the option to become free agents this season. They can exercise total control over their individual and collective destiny. Will they stay together after all is said and done?

Lebron James will opt out. He is at the top of his game, and the top of the basketball world. In fact, Wade and Bosh's decisions are based on Lebron's. Why will he decide to be a free agent?

Israel Gutierrez of ESPN: "Given a chance to reassess his future, regardless of how this season ends, LeBron will take that opportunity. What others do won't, nor should it, matter to him."

Sherwood Strauss of True Hoop: "Opting out means LeBron can get a five-year deal with max money. I'm not sure what advantage opting in would offer. I do expect LeBron to re-sign with Miami after entering free agency, though."

Dwyane Wade is more of a puzzler. There seems to be dwindling interest on him. He's getting old, and no matter how much he denies it, his knees are weak. Why should he opt out?

JA Adande, ESPN: "Wade should lock up another long-term deal while his knees are still at least semifunctional."

Gutierrez: "As in 2010, Wade is the key to keeping this thing together. If he takes a deal starting at about $15 million for five years, it'll do wonders for the Heat's flexibility."

Dwyane Wade still has a 'hold' over his two teammates at this point, and that is what makes him more valuable to the Heat. It is also a way of placing the Heat management on the spot. Lebron did mention that Wade should get a 'thank you' deal like what Kobe got from LA. But based solely on Wade's current ability, he's not going to get a max deal or anything close. He should opt out along with Lebron and highball for a guaranteed 5 year deal which would be his last.

Chris Bosh is a young player who took less than the backseat to form the Big Three. Basketball pundits are aware that he is the one making the biggest sacrifice. The only good reason to do that is for a championship ring. But with each year, the ring is more and more precarious.

Adande:  "He hardly gets mentioned with his former Big Three mates LeBron and Dwyane Wade anymore. Leaving or threatening to leave would be a good way to get everyone's attention and remind them the Heat's only pair of back-to-back championships came when he was on the roster (just saying)."

Chris Broussard, ESPN: "Bosh has sacrificed his game more than any other player on the Miami Heat. He might at least consider going somewhere he can average 20 and 10 again."

The Big Three will technically be up for grabs once they opt out. But no other team can afford to hire them all together, and no team can guarantee a championship by getting one of them, not even Lebron. Perhaps the Bulls would, but will Lebron play for the Michael Jordan's team? Probably not.
