Google Smartwatch release date: The rumored wearable by the tech giant is speculated to arrive sometime in 2014. Thanks to some “leaked photos” of the said Motorola-made smartwatch for Google, the Google Nexus smartwatch has finally been spotted in-development.

According to their source, the prototype Motorola made was scrapped in favor of a product made by LG. The device was officially called “Google Watch,” but may have a new name by LG who is also the maker of the Nexus 5. Rumored launch date for a Google wearable is expected this year.

The photos posted by Android Police shows a Motorola-made smartwatch that can be charged through a small USB connector that flipped out from its wrist band and offered a capacitive back button as well as physical buttons on its side. You can see the photos by Android Police here.

According to the International Business Times, the suppose Nexus smartwatch prototype looks similar to the Motorola MotoActv, including its black plastic construction and back button placement. The fitness-oriented wearable by Motorola rans on Android and was discontinued last year by the company.

Motorola said on Monday that it’s currently developing a smartwatch to be released “later this year” and would “address consumer issues like style and battery life.”

The Consumer Electronics Show of 2014 has unveiled numerous wearable gadgets that are possibly coming into the market. Fast Company has declared this year as the time for wearables to go mainstream.

Samsung Galaxy Gear is currently the number one wearable in the market having reportedly sold over two million units since it was released. It also has a new iteration, the Samsung Galaxy Gear 2 which runs on the Tizen operating system.
