Crocodile Hunter' Cameraman Justin Lyons Recalls Witnessing Steve Irwin's Death [VIDEO]

Crocodile Hunter cameraman Justin Lyons witnessed Steven Irwin's death back in 2006 and revealed the nitty-gritty details of the 'crazy, silly accident' in an exclusive interview with Studio10, on March 9, 2014.

The 'wildlife warrior' Steve Irwin was attacked by a stingray while he and Lyons were taking shots of the otherwise docile creature, underwater near Queensland, Australia, as part of the project 'Ocean's Deadliest.'

Lyons recalled how the creature "started stabbing wildly with its tail, hundreds of strikes within a few seconds." He was too stunned to realize what was happening or take action and after the stingray swam away, he saw "Steve was standing in a huge pool of blood."

The duo had not anticipated the extent of damage but Lyons refuted the earlier claims regarding Irwin's death that the wildlife explorer had managed to remove to barbs from his chest.

""It didn't come out, Steve didn't pull it out," said Lyons, later adding that even Irwin considered the attack to be a mild one when he said, ""It punctured me lung."

The rest of the crew arrived in no time and within 30 seconds Steve was taken to the main vessel (that was in use for the shoot) aboard on inflatable boat.

Steve was in "extraordinary pain...the damage to his heart was massive," recalled Lyons, stating that they realized that Steve was drying.

They tried to save him but all the means failed and the medics at the emergency declared him dead the moment they saw him.

Lyons talked about how he tried to boost Steve to fight, to stay afloat with words like, "Think of your kids, Steve, hang on, hang on, hang on," later adding, "he [Steve] calmly looked up at me, and said, 'I'm dying.'"

Those were the famous wildlife explorers last words. Steve breathed his last on September 4, 2006 and there were many stories surrounding his death, including a few fake footages.

The one win Justin Lyons, in cameraman's words, are 'private' and will not be shared with the public.
