Mark Zuckerberg Facebook Page Says He Is “Confused And Frustrated” By U.S. Government Behavior On Internet; ‘We’re Protecting You From Criminals, Not Our Own Government’

Mark Zuckerberg’s Facebook profile has more than 26 million followers and the social network’s CEO used it to express his disappointment on the Obama administration’s behavior towards the internet. In a 310 word Facebook status, he shares that he is “confused and frustrated the repeated reports of the behavior of the US government.”

“When our engineers work tirelessly to improve security, we imagine we’re protecting you against criminals, not our own government,” the Facebook co-founder wrote.

“The US government should be the champion for the internet, not a threat. They need to be much more transparent about what they're doing, or otherwise people will believe the worst.”

He then says that he reached out to President Barack Obama to “express my frustration over the damage the government is creating for all of our future.” A day after after he posted the status, it has been shared more than 28,000 times and receive more than 200,000 likes.

The 29-year-old tech titan did not mention any report, but his post came a day after The Intercept reports that the National Security Agency has the ability to fake Facebook server in order to infect and examine a target’s computer. The files that exposed the tactic was provided by whistleblower Edward Snowden.

According to the report, the exploit is part of a system codenamed TURBINE, designed to automate tasks done manually by the agency’s hackers. Other eavesdropping tactics that were also featured in the report include sending out spam emails with malware that can be tailored to record audio from a computer’s microphone and take snapshots with its webcam.

The New York Daily News reported that Facebook is not the only popular Internet platform being used by the NSA to collect user data. Reports from late January have said that Google Maps, Flickr, Twitter, LinkedIn and popular smartphone app Angry Birds all have data collected by National Security Agency data centers.
