Argentine Woman Dies After DIY Vaseline Injections To Enhance Breasts, Son Pays Respects On Facebook

Argentine woman Sonia Perez Llanzon, 39, died after she reportedly injected herself with DIY Vaseline injections to enhance her breasts, in an attempt to give herself a breast augmentation.

Perez Llanzon suffered a pulmonary embolism -- or blot clot in her lungs -- and died several weeks after she was admitted to Lucio Molas Hospital in Santa Rosa. She reportedly injected herself with the petroleum jelly, according to a Huffington Post translation of La Capital.

Perez Llanzon's son, 20-year-old Kevin Berazategui, paid tribute to his mother on Facebook:

"It has been two days since you haven't been here in this world... I will love you forever. The 20 years I spent by your side were beautiful," Berazategui wrote in a Facebook post dated March 8, according to a HuffPost translation. "I'm going to live my life as a demonstration of your efforts as a fighter, as my lion-hearted mother."

When Perez Llanzon was first admitted to the hospital with injuries to her breasts, she denied any knowledge of what happened. She later confessed to doctors that she had given herself DIY injections of Vaseline to make her breasts larger.

"I've never seen a case like this," Julio Pla, head of surgery, told local newspaper La Capital. "The human body has antibodies to remove bacteria and viruses, but it hasn't got any mechanisms against this type of product."

"Other people using Vaseline like this are putting themselves in danger," he added.

The Vaseline entered the woman's blood stream, where it caused blood clots that eventually traveled to her lungs, doctors said. Llanzon died as a result of pulmonary embolism following a month-long hospitalization.

Llanzon is remembered as an athlete, a marathon runner and a boxer, the Huffington Post reports.
