NBA MVP Ladder: LeBron James Currently On Second Place Behind Kevin Durant But Is Still Confident With Defending MVP Title

NBA MVP Ladder: It's a battle of who will win the best player, otherwise known as the Most Valuable Player this year as top players Kevin Durant and LeBron James outplay each other throughout the season.

Stepping up big-time in the past week was LeBron James who exploded with 61 points on 66% shooting to pull the Miami Heat up against the Charlotte Bobcats for a 124-107 win. This feat was a career-high for the reigning season MVP and a franchise record for the Heat.

"The man above has given me some unbelievable abilities to play the game of basketball," James said. "I just try to take advantage of it every night. I got the trust of my teammates and my coaching staff to go in there and let it go."

James finished the first half with 24 points before he exploded on the third quarter and made history on the fourth.

"I felt pretty good in the first half but halftime can always kind of derail things and slow things up," James said. "But I was able to get things going once again in the third quarter and I knew it could be one of those nights."

Teammates couldn't believe what they just witnessed, as LeBron didn't just score a lot of points but even scored well in just 33 shots. Glen Rice was the previous record holder for most points for the Heat when he scored 56 against the Magic team on April 15, 1995.

"Once he sniffed 60, we knew he was going for it," Heat forward Shane Battier said. "And the amazing part is the efficiency. Good Lord. Sixty-one on 33 shots, that's Wilt Chamberlain-esque. That's pretty amazing. Incredible performance."
