Courtney Cash, the grandniece of country legend Johnny Cash, was found dead in her home in Tennessee. A friend is charged in her death.

According to Putnam County sheriff's officials, Courtney Cash, the grandniece of Johnny Cash, was found stabbed to death and left in a box in her Tennessee home.

Courtney Cash was the granddaughter of Tommy Cash, the brother of the late Johnny Cash.

In a statement on Facebook, Tommy Cash, the brother of the Late Johnny Cash said "Courtney and her boyfriend are beloved members of my family and like you we have a lot of questions and emotions that we are beginning to sort through today. We are completely heartbroken. It is a time like this that we are grateful for our faith and trusting the loving guidance of God."

A 27-year-old Wayne Masciarella of Cape May, N.J., was charged with the fatal stabbing of Courtney Cash, the great-niece of country singer. Johnny Cash.

Masciarella was charged with first-degree murder in the death of Courtney Cash. Masciarella was also accused of stabbing William Austin Johnson, Cash's boyfriend.

Cash's boyfriend is being treated for stab wounds at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville.

Putnam County Sheriff David Andrews said the body of Johnny Cash's grandniece was found in a chest in Cookeville, Tennessee, on Wednesday morning. Cookeville is about 70 miles east of Nashville.

Sherriff Andrews said Masciarella got into a fight with Cash and Johnson at their home in Baxter, Tenn. The Sherriff said Masciarella allegedly stabbed them both and fled the scene.

Putnam County Sheriff David Andrews said the three were believed to be friends.

The sheriff said "There was a struggle."

The suspect may have been trying to hide Cash's body. The Sherriff's office has not released a motive fr the killing, but hinted that the stabbings might have been connected to drugs.

Andrews said "This is a senseless, tragic death of a young lady whose life was probably taken as a direct or indirect result of drugs."

Masciarella was arrested in Cookeville and booked without bond into the Putnam County Jail. Preliminary hearings are set for next week. Andrews indicated that that additional charges could be filed against Masciarella.
