‘Some’ Passes Baton Onto ‘That Kind Of Guy’

Soyou and JungGiGo's "Some" dominated the music scene, but now it's being overtaken by a surprising candidate.

Bro has no official agency and isn't even well known. He's an anonymous singer, but as of the 26th, he's taken the number 1 spot on MelOn's real-time charts thanks to his song being relatable. He's taken the top spots on several other music charts as well, and is eyeing the number 1 spot.

Bro's "That Kind of Guy" was released on the 21st. The song is particularly a hot topic because it directly deals with the topic of 'kimchi girl', a term that's been making rounds online since last year. There's some talk that they're using noise marketing due to its relation to Il Be's site, but many are relating to the song's lyrics.

The lyrics include, "You give him a passing glance, and he brings you a present without saying a word", "A guy who's 180cm tall and makes 60k a year", and points out some women's expectations. And then Bro goes on to sing, "Is that kind of guy crazy enough to meet someone like you?"

These lyrics are sung in an R&B ballad style. Even though the artist brand has not yet been established, Bro has become a hot topic on Twitter and Facebook with just the song lyrics. And in just 5 days the song has ranked at the top of music charts.

A rep from Bro's side stated, "Before he's written 2-3 songs for an event held at Ilbe, but he didn't receive this great of a response. This song was another one that was submitted for an Ilbe event, and other people kept saying that the lyrics are fun. That's why we decided to properly create a song. It's coincidence that this topic has become one of great interest."

There can be a great divide over the song's lyrics. Bro sings of the 'conditions' of love that are so prominent in the dating world, and he expresses how men feel in a relatively honest way. Men can relate to the lyrics that Bro sings. That's why the song is so popular right now.

While most songs focus on couples already in love or after a breakup, this song focuses on dating, not love. That's why it appeals to a much wider audience. It's relatable because there are so many couples that are dating and not yet in love that come across these same types of problems.

And so "That Kind of Guy" is abutting the popular "Some" craze. Bro's song sings of the difficulties of dating in a very frank manner. As much as this song is becoming a hot issue, it's likely to stay that way for a while. Already someone has sung a response to the song from a girl's point of view. It looks like "That Kind of Guy", whether for better or for worse, is here to stay.
