Super Junior M Members Return As Businessmen- Their Evolution Of Performance Continues

Super Junior M had their comeback with their 3rd mini album Swing. Since it was their first album release in 1 year 3 months, Super Junior M brought their A game in  performance and musical completeness. The title song "Swing" is an R&B sound mingled with electric sound, which creates a rhythmical pop dance song that is very energetic. The lyrics contain the message of being weary from working or everyday life.

Super Junior M is a unit group whose activities are emphasized in China, but they will be holding a special 2 week activity plan for Korean fans. Last year the group released "Break Down" and decided to hold a special one-week promotion in Korea during their Chinese activities. This time, they'll be holding their comeback stage in Korea first, even before the official album release. It's a great gift for Korean fans. They put on a special performance on cable channel Mnet's "M Countdown" on the 27th, and will continue to perform on music programs for 2 weeks. So how did the members feel about having a comeback as Super Junior M?

"We're usually active in China with Chinese music programs, but it's a new experience, being able to greet Korean fans with Korean music program comebacks. It feels like we're home? It's really comfortable. It's because the Chinese music market is big and can sometimes feel a strange, so we might stay a little nervous. But during this comeback in Korea, we're taking it easy and having fun. We want to take home the winning trophy as Super Junior M, just like other Korean groups." (Eunhyuk)

"During our last 'Break Down' activities, Korean fans showed us a great response. And we've always wanted to perform for our Korean fans. Thanks to this opportunity we've been given, we were able to perform in Korea, and our fans have been coming to see us." (Sungmin)

The day before the interview on the 27th, the group had already performed twice for a pre-recording of "Inkigayo" and for "M Countdown," fulfilling their busy schedules. Because of their performance involving the desk, they needed more energy and practice, and had more frequent activities. Super Junior M must have been very tired, but they put on happy expressions throughout the music programs. Eunhyuk introduced Sungmin as Super Junior M's guy in charge of performance. Sungmin showcased his cute moves on the spot. Just like their title song "Swing," the members boasted a youthful atmosphere. However, Eunhyuk revealed that the title song "Swing" was difficult.

"It's so difficult. (Laughter) But even when we first heard the demo it was such an exciting style song, of one that he hadn't done before, so there was a sense of novelty. In particular I really liked the concept." (Eunhyuk)

The concept for Super Junior M is office worker. The concept was inspired by their desk performance. Eunhyuk stated, "When we say desk, one might think of a school desk, but when we thought about it we came to the conclusion that at our age it would be more fitting to say that we're adults with office jobs. Now even office workers in their 30's can easily listen to the song and sing along. These people take care of a lot of paperwork. There must be times when they want to throw everything because of the stress. I think it would be good for us throw everything so that we can relieve your stress."

We've often seen Super Junior in suits, but this time around they've ditched the dandy style for a cool style, executed by the loose tie and casually worn shirts. Eunhyuk said, "Before when we wore suits, we styled ourselves as idols wearing suits, but this time around we're trying to put on a cool image. We went for a comfortable suit look so that we can look like office workers. We wear shirts inside our jackets, or have dance moves where we take off our jackets."

The performance is full of many noteworthy points. They switch their desks in order to change views, take off their jackets, or swing around a towel. "In previous songs such as 'Sorry Sorry,' we always had point choreography in each song. However, for this song we use a lot of props, so there are a lot of things to look out for." Sung Min especially pointed out the move involving a towel. He said, "Our song has an introduction, development, turn, and conclusion. Other singers each had all these steps in composition as well, but this time it's very clear. First we start off simply sitting down at the desks. Next we move desks and dance, and then we take off our suit jackets and swing the towel. When we do that final move, people feel a lot of joy."

You can also see Super Junior M's talented acting skills in the music video, as they've made full transformations into office workers. They act as employees working in the office.

"The director decided our roles, but since we've never worked in an office setting before, we're unfamiliar with seasoned managers and regular managers and their ranks. For us it was just fun to have a office worker concept. We think that we've decided on concepts that are not our usually personalities. In a way Siwon is like the boss (laughter) but in the music video he gives off the feeling of an intern that works really hard." (Eunhyuk)

"It was really fun to film the part where we act because it feels like we're just fooling around." (Sungmin)

Super Junior M decided to use a fake one take technique for this music video. They filmed the same scene five times and edited the footage to make it look like it was just one take. The pre-recording of the music program was conducted in this way as well. Super Junior M prepared a performance for the concert and for the live show. They prepared an exciting performance for the viewers. Despite their relatively short 2 week activity, it's obvious that their passion for performing hasn't died.

The members are in their 10th year of Super Junior, and 8th year with Super Junior M. They've been active for quite a while as one of the best Hallyu groups, and instead of becoming lax, the group has worked even harder to bring a new performance. They've come back as matured office workers in the fake one take technique, which brings much joy to the viewers. The good looking idol group is continuously growing, and always looking for ways to put on another great performance.
