Megan Huntsman Accused of Killing 7 Babies; Remains of Seven Infants Found In Cardboard Boxes in Utah Home

Megan Huntsman is accused of birthing and killing 7 babies. Police say Megan Huntsman was arrested after the bodies of seven babies were found in Utah house.

Police said the Utah woman has been arrested on six counts of murder. Authorities found the bodies of seven infants packed into separate cardboard boxes at a home in Utah. Police believe that six of Megan Huntsman's children died from asphyxiation and the seventh was stillborn.

Megan Huntsman, 39, lived in the Pleasant Grove, Utah, home until three years ago. Investigators say Huntsman had the infants between 1996 and 2006.

According to a police news release, investigators believe Huntsman gave birth to the babies then killed them over the past decade.  The police were called to the Utah house on Saturday after they received a call from Darren West, Huntsman's estranged husband, about a dead infant at the home. Police chief Michael Roberts said the people who live in the house now called police after discovering the remains of an infant while clearing out the garage.

When police arrived on the scene they discovered six other bodies. Police said one of the babies was believed to be stillborn. Her estranged husband was cleaning out the garage after recently getting out of prison. Police do not believe he was aware of the killings and he isn't a person of interest at this time.

Police Capt. Michael Roberts told the AP "We don't believe he (Darren West) had any knowledge of the situation." But when asked how the West could not have known about the situation, Roberts answered, "That's the million-dollar question. Amazing."

Capt. Michael Roberts of the Pleasant Grove Police Department told ABC News "A family member was cleaning out the garage and came across a box that looked suspicious. Upon opening the box they found the infant inside."

Police got a search warrant, inspected the home and found six infant bodies packaged in separate containers. Huntsman's ex-husband's parents own the home. Huntsman's three daughters still live there. According to neighbor Sharon Chipman, the eldest daughters are around 18 to 20 years old, while the youngest is now about 13. Chipman hasn't seen the daughters since the news broke.

The babies' bodies were sent to the Utah medical examiner's office for tests.

According to Utah Court Records, Megan Huntsman has no criminal record, aside from a 2011 traffic citation.
