K-Pop Goes American: Chad Future Releases 'Rock The World' Featuring VIXX's Ravi

As the first Western musician to try to break into K-Pop, Chad Future lives up to his title as an American K-Pop artist.

His latest song 'Rock The World,' is a dance track with a heavy, pounding beat throughout that is intended to make the audience listening to it get up and dance. The lyrics of the song are bit more out there than the average K-Pop dance track, since they include cursing and memorable lines like ''When this song comes on you gon' shake ya damn butts.'

Chad Future does a good job incorporating typical K-Pop elements into his song. He sings mostly in English and has random Korean phrases thrown throughout, and has a much better grasp of Korean than many idols do about English. He wears a jacket with embroidered flags of both countries, showing that his song is meant to be a melding of American and Korean music.

The song has a good feel to it, but has led to fans questioning whether a song in English can be considered K-Pop.

Is the song pure K-Pop? There's no real answer for that, since K-Pop as a genre is often accused of being an imitation of Western music. As a result, Chad Future's 'Rock The World' only truly appears to be a K-Pop song if you realize that he's speaking in Korean. But even that isn't necessarily a primary element of K-Pop; many popular artists, including Girls' Generation and Big Bang's Taeyang, have released songs in English.

The song contains elements that are commonly seen in K-Pop, such as the heavy beat, auto-tune, catchy dance and chorus, etc. 'Rock The World' even features a rapper, Ravi from idol group VIXX, which often occurs in songs performed by solo artists who are trying to bolster their song with a collaboration.

Fans responded to the music video posted on YouTube by having a debate about whether there is such a thing as American K-Pop. While some fans are adamant about the fact that it is a contradiction, many fans respect Chad Future and have commented that they think that 'Rock The World' is a good step in the direction towards a more international K-Pop genre.

However, some fans have pointed out the similarities between the music video for 'Rock The World' and B.A.P's debut music video, 'Warrior.'

The set and style of the video are similar, but it is primarily the fact that Chad Future is seen smashing a car with a hammer that has most fans upset, since B.A.P's Bang Yongguk was seen doing the same thing. At the same time, other fans are defending the music video, citing the fact that numerous K-Pop videos feature the same elements.
