Korean Horror Movie “Horror Stories 2” Ranks #2 on BIFFF

"Horror Stories 2", released last year, received the judges' "Silver Raven" award at the 32nd Brussels International Fantastic Film Festival (BIFFF).

BIFFF is one of three world's major fantastic film festivals with the SITGES International Film Festival of Catalonia and Fantasporto International Film Festival. The Silver Raven award, received by "Horror Stories 2", is the second place award also previously received by Park Chan Wook's "Thirst" and Kim Ji Woon's "A Tale of Two Sisters".

"Horror Stories 2" is a collective movie of stories directed by Min Kyu Dong, Kim Sung Ho, Kim Hwi, and Jung Bum Sik.

Actors Sung Jun, Lee Soo Hyuk, Baek Jin Hee, Kim Seul Ki, Go Kyung Pyo, Kim Ji Won, Park Sung Woong, and Lee Se Young starred in the film.

The third part of the "Horror Stories" will premiere next March.

Korean movies have been garnering attention internationally.

"Mad Sad Bad," which was shown at the 15th Jeonju International Film Festival, is a 3D film that showcases new possibilities for the technology in the movie industry, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The Korean indie film industry reportedly tends to stray from making 3D films because production gets expensive and genre-specific. It has also been perceived to be unnecessary for drama.

"When it comes to 3D, comparison with Hollywood is inevitable. But 'Mad Sad Bad' distances itself from mega-budget spectacles and poses a very important question about the aesthetics of 3D technology in film," stated Ko Suk-man, the JIFF festival director.

Ko added, "This project is meaningful in that it presents an authentic fusion between technology and storytelling."

Another film, "Han Gong-ju," has also been getting the love of moviegoers and industry professionals.

The teen drama even caught the eye of director Martin Scorses who called the movie "a remarkable and powerful fim debut. Strong on all levels."

The movie focuses on a 17-year-old girl's journey of overcoming bullying as she showcases her hidden singing talent.

"Han Gong-ju" is set to be represented by Finecut at the 2014 Cannes Film Market from May 14 to 23.
