MacBook Air Release Date & Price 2014; Specs Of New Lightweight Apple Laptops Incl. Up To 12 Hour Battery Life, Faster Processor; $100 Cheaper On All Variants

MacBook Air release date: Specs of the newly refreshed MacBook Air models include longer battery life, up to 12 hours for the 13-inch variant as well as faster processors. Both the 11-inch and 13-inch variants are also $100 cheaper.

The 11-inch MacBook Air with 128GB storage is now for sale at $899 while the 13-inch model with 256GB storage is for sale at $1,199. The new versions of the MacBook Air come with fourth-generation Intel Core i5 and Core i7 processors.

According to the Cupertino tech giant, the new processors works with OS X Mavericks operating system with the goal of providing 12 hours of battery life on the 13-inch models and 9 hours on the 11-inch MacBook Air.

It is expected that the company will have a more radical upgrade to its MacBook Air product line later this year and 9to5Mac is reporting that the company may develop a hybrid 12-inch MacBook Air that would perform like the larger, more powerful while having the portability of the 11-inch air.

The upgrades and the price cut for the MacBook Air has left the models unchanged in terms of it design. The 11-inch MacBook Air 2014 is 0.68-inch thick and weighs 2.38 pounds. It’s bigger counterpart, the 13-inch MacBook Air 2014 is the same in thickness but weighs 2.96 pounds.

Gotta Be Mobile (GBM) notes that the 11-inch model has an 11.6-inch display with a 1366 x 768 resolution, two USB 3.0 ports and a Thunderbolt port. The 13-inch MacBook Air has offers the same ports and has an SD card slot. Both of these notebooks have a FaceTime HD video camera.

The new MacBook Air 2014 models ships with OS X Mavericks and includes free access to iPhoto, iMovie, GarageBand, Pages, Numbers, and Keynote. According to GBM, it’s likely that Apple will announce a new version of OS X called OS X 10.10 at WWDC this June.
