Samsung Galaxy S5 Mini Release Date: Pic Of Smaller Flagship Device Leaks, Rumored Specs Incl. 4.5" Display, 8MP Camera, No Heart Rate Monitor

Samsung Galaxy S5 mini release date: For the past few months, the Samsung Galaxy S5 has been in the headlines, thanks to its monster specs, and on a negative note, lame design. However, it looks like the Korean tech giant is poised to continue its strategy of releasing different variants for their flagship phones.

Just a week ago, Samsung launched its K Zoom, the Galaxy S4 Zoom successor which focuses on the camera department. From the announcement, the Android smartphone packs some serious photography specs such as a 20.7MP primary camera with 10x optical zoom.

The 4.8-inch 720p display, 2GB of RAM and a hexa-core CPU do not hurt the phone's reputation either.

Now that the camera-centric phone has been announced, it is now time for the miniature Galaxy S5. Dubbed simply as the Galaxy S5 mini, this handset is expected to boast midrange specs while getting most, if not all, of the design and build features of its bigger sibling.

In a report by GSM Arena, we may be seeing the Galaxy S5 mini sooner rather than later after a page for it was spotted on Samsung UK's website. The page has since been taken down, but an ever vigilant EV Leaks was able to screencap it.

Interestingly, the Galaxy S5 mini on the page is called the Galaxy S5 DX. It could just be one of Samsung's schemes in its marketing campaign. It has done it already with the Galaxy K Zoom (Galaxy S5 Zoom), so there is no reason why it can't do the same thing with the Galaxy S5 DX (Galaxy S5 mini).

Apparently, the report says that the Galaxy S5 DX would not get the heart rate monitor that is present in the Galaxy S5. That may not be a major drawback, and it would also help the device come out cheaper.
