Fans Ask The Big Questions: 'TOP Or GD,' 'Luhan Or Kai,' And 'Yoona Or Tiffany' Trends Worldwide

Twitter exploded when some fans started to ask the most important questions in K-Pop: Which member of an idol group is more popular amongst fans?

On May 7, three worldwide trends on Twitter caught some attention when K-Pop fans started to discuss en masse which popular idols were better than one another. The trend had begun to gain attention on May 6, when fans started to place their favorite idols against one another.

Thankfully, fans kept it in between members of the same idol groups, and were able to avoid fanwars.

Fans argued about whether Big Bang's T.O.P or G-Dragon was better, which member of EXO, Luhan or Kai, was their favorite, and which Girls' Generation member is the best, Yoona or Tiffany.

Topsy, a Twitter trends tracking site, estimated that on May 6, fans had debated the Yoona or Tiffany question over 5,000 times. People had also discussed which EXO and Big Bang members were better than the other group member over 7,000 times apiece. By May 7, thousands of more people were debating the question and it trended for a short time, around 9AM EST.

Even though K-Pop fans are generally very confident in their biases, the general consensus on Twitter was that it was impossible to pick between the two members of each group, since each idol offers something different. While some fans actually took the time to Tweet about why which idol was their favorite, most people Tweeted about the unity of idol groups because of their members.

Different variations of the trends were tweeted, such as "TOP Or GD Luhan Or Kai," and other idol members were also compared, notably 2NE1's Dara and CL. However, only the Big Bang, EXO, and Girls' Generation trends made it into the Worldwide Trends.

Twitter Trends have often showed the popularity of different idols, particularly with birthday messages. However, this is one of the few times that K-Pop fans have gained attention for actively discussing their biases in groups.

The Worldwide Trend only lasted for a few minutes, but definitely showed the power of global K-Pop fans.
