Stephen Colbert Replacement Will Be ‘Daily Show With Jon Stewarts’ Larry Wilmore; `The Minority Report' Premieres In January; Who is Larry Wilmore? [VIDEO]

Stephen Colbert's replacement was named last week as he heads off to CBS to succeed David Letterman on "The Late Show." Larry Wilmore, the Senior Black Correspondent from "The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, will host Comedy Central's new late night talk show "The Minority Report with Larry Wilmore." It will air in the 11:30 p.m. Monday to Thursday timeslot directly after The Daily Show. The slot is currently occupied by soon-to-be "Late Show" host Stephen Colbert.

What? They couldn't call it the Wilmore Report? With a silent T? it actually rhymes. So who is this Larry Wilmore guy?

Larry Wilmore was a standup comedian and an actor before he made the switch to writing and producing. Wilmore grew up around Los Angeles and lives in California.

Wilmore's father is a doctor and he has a younger brother name Marc, who is also a television writer, actor, and producer. Wilmore studied theatre at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona, but dropped out to to stand-up and pursue acting. He had a recurring role as a police officer on The Facts of Life. He moved on writing on the shows "Into the Night With Rick Dees," "Living Color," and acted and wrote for the sitcom Sister, Sister" as well as The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air and The Jamie Foxx Show.

Then he co-created The PJs with Eddie Murphy. A show I personally love and wish hadn't ended. Wilmore won an Emmy for the pilot episode of "The Bernie Mac Show," for which he also won a Peabody Award and a Humanitas Prize. He created and produced "Whoopi," with Whoopi Goldberg. From 2005 to 2007, Wilmore was a consulting producer for "The Office" and played Mr. Brown on the episode, "Diversity Day."

Wilmore joined "The Daily Show with Jon Stewart" in 2006.

Wilmore scored a writing Emmy for the pilot episode of "The Bernie Mac Show,". He also wrote the 2009 book "I'd Rather We Got Casinos and Other Black Thoughts." In 2012 he hosted the Showtime series "Larry Wilmore's Race, Religion & Sex."

Wilmore is currently "Senior Black Correspondent" on "The Best F*&#ing News Team Ever!,"

Comedy Central says Minority Report with Larry Wilmore will be "a comedic look at news, current events and pop culture from unique perspectives not typically on display in late night television."

Emmy award-winning writer Larry Wilmore said in a statement, "I'm beyond excited to have this chance to continue my relationships with Comedy Central and the brilliant Jon Stewart.  I love the city of New York and promise to only wear my Laker t-shirts when I'm layering."

Jon Stewart responded, "While Larry Wilmore is a brilliant comic and showrunner, this is all just a complicated ruse to get him to move to New York and turn him into a Knicks fan."

"The Minority Report" was created by Jon Stewart and will be produced by Stewart's Busboy Prods. Jon Stewart and Larry Wilmore will be the executive producers.

Wilmore and Arsenio Hall will be the only two African-American late night hosts in an otherwise white-male latenight TV landscape. At NBC, Jimmy Fallon was just tapped to take over "The Tonight Show" from Jay Leno when he steps down in February.

Michele Ganeless, a president at Comedy Central "We are thrilled to be expanding our relationship with Jon Stewart and Busboy Productions, and are looking forward to the world getting to know Larry Wilmore even better. He's a spectacular talent in front of and behind the camera. 'The Minority Report with Larry Wilmore' follows in the Comedy Central tradition - bringing new perspectives to the day's events and breaking ground in the world of late night television."

"The Minority Report with Larry Wilmore" will premiere in January 2015 on Comedy Central.
