World’s Most Expensive Cities To Live In: New Survey Shows Geneva As Costliest Place To Live In The Planet Base On Hotel’s Club Sandwich Price; $32.60 For A Bite Anyone?

World’s most expensive cities to live in: The Swiss city of Geneva, Switzerland, home to some of the world’s most important international organizations has been deemed the costliest place to live in the planet. The label was based on the prices of a club sandwich from its hotels.

Geneva’s new label came after looking at the average price of club sandwiches across hotel menus in major cities around the world, the Huffington Post reports. Hotels.com found that visitors in the city are most likely to pay an average of $32.60 for a classic hotel staple.

Results from the 2014 survey changed little from last year’s. Geneva retained the top spot followed by Paris, where visitors can expect to shell out an average of $29.36 for a double-decker sandwich.

Based on the index, the most affordable or least expensive city in the world is New Delhi, where the average price for a hotel club sandwich is at a modest $8.78.

According to the Huffington Post, another notable finding in the report are prices in Sydney. The Australian metropolis experienced the biggest drop over last year, falling from $20.53 in 2013 to $16.93 this year.

To complete the rankings, researchers calculated the average price of a club sandwich in 30 hotels located at each major city. All in all, a total of 840 hotels ranging from three to five-star categories were canvassed.

Rounding up the top five after Geneva and Paris for the world’s most expensive cities, based on club sandwich prices are: Helsinkin, Finland; Stockholm, Sweden; and Oslo, Norway.

Aside from having the most expensive price for a club sandwich order, Geneva also has what is considered the world’s most expensive hotel room. The Royal Penthouse Suite at Geneva’s Hotel President Wilson costs $83,200 a night.

The ultra-premium suite has 12 bedrooms and 12 marble bathrooms and a wraparound terrace with views of the Alps. The backdrop has been said to move a handful of famous musicians. VIPs staying at the suite with no entourage can rely on the private staff, which includes a butler, chef, and personal assistant.
