Kraft Recalls Cottage Cheese Right After Its Oscar Mayer Hot Dog Pull Out

Kraft Foods Group have been all over the news with recalls of their products. Last month Kraft recalled 96,000 pounds of Oscar Mayer hot dogs due to incorrect labeling. This past weekend, Kraft withdrew 1.2 million cases of cottage cheese.

So what went wrong with these items? Turns out that the packaging for the Oscar Mayer Classic Wieners were misleading. The officials from USDA said in a statement that these hot dogs might have contained cheese, but the labeling did not reflect that they contained milk. This may have been a nonissue for most people, but for people with serious lactose intolerance, this could have been a serious problem.

As for this week's big news about cottage cheese, improper storage seems to be the cause of the massive recall. Kraft has decided to pull out after receiving one complaint of illness stemming from one of their three-dozen cottage cheese products. Many of these products were between 4 and 16 ounces. That means that at least 300,000 pounds of Kraft's cottage cheese are now inedible!

The now-recalled cottage cheese products were stamped with dates between May 9 and July 23. The dates can be found on the bottom of the cup or the top of the package. The brand names associated with the withdrawal are Knudsen, Breakstone's, Simply Kraft or Daily Chef. For the Simply Kraft products that are subject to the recall are only those with a plant code of 06-245 on the bottom of the cup and case code date without any "W" (e.g., "21 JUL 2014″).

Good news is that the purchases are fully refundable! Customers are encouraged to return them to the store for an exchange or full refund. They can also contact Kraft Foods Consumer Relations at 1-800-396-6307 between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time.
