Microsoft Surface Pro 3 Release Date: Specs Of New Windows Powered Slab Incl. 12-inch Display, 9.1MM Slim Body; Thinnest Intel Core Product, Avail. June 20

Microsoft Surface Pro 3 release date: Specs of Microsoft’s newest Windows tablet includes a 12-inch display, Intel iCore under the hood and a 9.1 mm body with a claim that it’s the thinnest Intel Core product ever made.

Officially launched by the Redmond tech giant May 20, U.S. customers can now pre-order the Surface 3 on Wednesday. The official release date for the device is on June 20. The Microsoft Surface Pro 3 starts at $799 and the tablet will be available in three configurations: Intel Core i3, Intel Core i5, and Intel Core i7. The i3 version is reported to be on sale in June, with the Core i3 and i7 coming this August.

There were expectations that instead of a larger tablet, we would see an 8-inch tablet by Microsoft, but the company showcased a device with a larger screen instead. Though it’s bigger in display size, 12-inch display compared to the Surface Pro 2’s 10.6-inch, it’s lighter at 800 grams.

Other features of the Microsoft Surface Pro 3 include a 2,160 x 1,400 display, which has the “highest contrast rations in the industry.” Panos Panay, head of Microsoft’s Surface division, said that the feature is important as it will mean your eyes will get “less tired” as you work.

The Microsoft executive also exhibited the durability of the Microsoft Surface Pro 3 by dropping it to the floor.

He compares the new tablet to the 13-inch MacBook Air, saying that despite a smaller screen, the new Surface Pro 3 allows for more content on the display than the Apple laptop.

The executive said that 96 percent of people with iPads also have laptops.

“There’s a reason for that,” and he continues to say that tablets are for kicking back and watching movies or using apps, while laptops are “designed to get stuff done.” With the new Microsoft Surface Pro 3, the company plans to “take that conflict away.”

From the very beginning, the company has always touted its Surface Pro line as the tablet that can replace your laptop. It further reinforces that branding with the Surface Pro 3.
