Janelle Monae Tour Cancelled: Will She Withdraw From Prospect Park Performance?

Queen of Afrofuturism Janelle Monae cancelled her Australasian Tour with 'Somebody That I Used To Know' songstress Kimbra due to her sickness. Late May tour dates scheduled for Brisbane, Auckland and Melbourne have been officially scrapped. But the bigger question is, will Janelle Monae be able to show up for her Brooklyn's Prospect Park performance?

A complete statement from Live Nation was issued today cancelling all Australiasian tour dates. The five-city 'Golden Electric Tour' of Australia and New Zealand with Kiwi crooner Kimbra Before was one of the most highly anticipated international tours in the region. Previous to this announcement, Janelle Monae had cancelled her Melbourne performance at The Forum just minutes before she was due on stage. Live Nation said the 'Electric Lady' singer stayed out of the performance on doctor's orders. She had also postponed her Sydney Opera House performance.

But for her die-hard fans back in the U.S., the more pressing concern is her tour dates in her home country as well as the free performance at Prospect Park in Brooklyn on June 4. Janelle Monae is scheduled to return to the U.S. starting May 31 at the Roots Picnic in Philadelphia. As things stand right now, it's unclear whether these performances will be affected.

In the beginning of summer, Prospect Park in partnership with Celebrate Brooklyn! holds a massive kick-off concert to get people hyped for the performances happening for the rest of the season. This year, the R&B sensation Janelle Monae is the headliner and thousands of hip young things are expected to flock to Prospect Park to take advantage of this free opportunity to see 'The Electric Lady'. The event website still says that "this event will occur as scheduled", but with this news of Janelle Monae's sickness, thing aren't looking so good!

Live Nation did not offer any update on Monae's condition. Let's cross our fingers for the sake of the Brooklynites!
