‘Pirates of the Caribbean 5’ Cast Geoffrey Rush Champions Tasmanian Wilderness Welfare; Actor Gets Order Of Australia Honors

"Pirates of Caribbean 5" cast Geoffrey Rush has championed the Tasmanian Wilderness Welfare as the actor gets another distinction when he was awarded the Order of Australia honors.

Geoffrey Rush, who plays Captain Barbosa in the "Pirates of the Caribbean" series, was among the latest personalities-including AFL coach Mick Malthouse and author Tim Winton-who threw behind their support for the campaign launched by the Bob Brown Foundation, according to Echo Daily.

The campaign seeks to pressure the federal government into dropping its plan to delist 74,000 hectares of wildnerness. The final ruling will be handed down next month when the committee meets in Qatar.

The Global Voice for Heritage campaign spokeswoman Jenny Webber said in a statement:' "These magnificent World Heritage forests are not yet safe, despite both the World Heritage Committee draft report and the Australian Senate recommending that the proposal be rejected."

"Pirates of the Caribbean 5" cast Geoffrey Rush has also received the Companion of the Order of Australia in the General division for the services of the arts earlier this month.

The Toowoomba native, who has won an Oscar, Emmy and Tony, added another feather on his cap with the distinction due to his work in promoting Australian talent, said the Australia's Chronicle.

"Pirates of the Caribbean 5" cast Geoffrey Rush has also been an active supporter of the Empire Theatre in his native Toowoomba. Theatre chairman Peter Swannel told Chronicle:

"Geoffrey Rush is a great ambassador for Toowoomba and it is great to see him recognised with such an important award," he said. "We had the honour of having him help celebrate the Empire Theatre's centenary in 2011 in his role as theatre patron.

"Pirates of the Caribbean 5: Dead Men Tell No Tales" might possibly begin production this fall according to Disney Chairman Alan Horn.

Meanwhile, Johnny Depp, who plays Captain Jack Sparrow, confirmed that he's working with the screenwriter for the script of "Dead Men Tell no Tales" in order come up with a story that will "end on a high note."
