Johnny Damon Intercepts Manny Ramirez's Ceremonial First Pitch As Payback For The Outfielder's Strange Play During The 2004 World Series [VIDEO]

Johnny Damon made sure that Manny Ramirez is still haunted by the bizarre mistake he made during the 2004 World Series. As Manny Ramirez threw the ceremonial first pitch for the 10th anniversary of the 2004 World Series, Johnny Damon jumped in to catch the ball before it made it to the homebase. The teammates had a good laugh about it, but back in 2004 World Series' seventh inning, it wasn't so funny.

During a pretty uneventful home game against the Baltimore Orioles, the Red Sox were well disposed to win the game. In the seventh inning, Baltimore's David Newhan smashed the ball into the center field. No biggie though, because Johnny Damon was ready to gather it up and throw it back towards the shortstop mark Bellhorn. What happened next was so perplexing that even the baserunners were confused. Manny Ramirez ran in from the left field and cut the ball off from reaching the shortstop. This made Johnny Damon complete a homerun.

For soccer fans, this is equivalent to driving the ball towards your own goal.

So when the old Red Sox team got together again to celebrate the tenth anniversary of the 2004 World Series, which broke the team's 86-year title drought, Johnny Damon was so ready for the payback that he has been plotting for ten long years. When Manny Ramirez threw in the ceremonial pitch, Johnny broke out from the side and made a tumbling catch. The team broke out in laughter. Damon and Ramirez shared a bear hug at the pitcher's mound and the crowd reacted well. After all, what would be so fun about follow a team if it didn't have the colorful, quirky and weird history like the Red Sox does?
