Sex Motels Rev Up For World Cup 2014 Visitors; Massive Accommodation Crunch In Rio May Force Tourists To Stay In Hotels Like ‘Opium’, ‘Swing’ & ‘Fetish’

Sex motels are also preparing for the World Cup 2014, as they’re expecting numerous visitors from all over the world to be using their services thanks to the accommodation crunch the host city of Rio de Janeiro is experiencing.

Some of these places have names like “Opium,” “Swing” and “Fetish” and usually caters to young people who live at home before marriage but wants a night of privacy for themselves and their special someone.

In a report by CNN Money, some travelers are getting creative and opting to stay in these motels that usually caters to Brazilians hooking up after a night on town.

These accommodations come at a cheaper rate, compared to traditional hotels, and offer surprising amenities including private pool and “erotic chairs.”

According to Michael Fine, a travel consultant based in Sao Paulo, motels have sprung up across Brazil to serve young people wanting a time of their own away from home.

Fine clarified that these places are not brothels. Though there are many low-end “fleabag” motels renting rooms for 30 minutes at a time, there are other places that offer high-end features like tubs, themed rooms and saunas.

The 60-room Lush Motel in San Paulo has experienced a surged in bookings from foreign clients, says the man who runs it, Felipe Martinez. He expects international business to triple during the World Cup boosting sales by 20%.

Rates for rooms are from $105 and $620 a night, twice what clients pay for a typical half-day stay, Mr. Martinez said.

The hotel manager has gone out of his way to attract visiting soccer fans by launching an English-language version of the website and promoting it on Booking.com and Expedia.

Places like Lush are unlikely to stretch your budget and Trivago shows that motel prices are roughly 25% lower than hotels.

Katie Merrill, spokeswoman for the price comparison website said that “Love motels are a bargain.” The average price in Rio de Janeiro during the World Cup is $219, compared $287 for a traditional hotel, she said as reported by CNN Money.
