‘Fifty Shades Of Grey’ Movie News: Charlie Hunnam Regrets Not Playing Christian Grey? 'Sons Of Anarchy' Star Hopes To Watch At Premiere

The "Fifty Shades of Grey" movie was rocked with controversy when Charlie Hunnam decided to ditch his role as Christian Grey, letting Jamie Dornan snag the coveted part. Now it seems Charlie Hunnam is expressing some regret at not being able to play Christian Grey in the "Fifty Shades of Grey" movie, but he hopes to catch the film at the premiere.

The 34-year-old "Sons of Anarchy" star says he would have loved to keep the role if his schedule had worked out, E! News reports.

"I felt like I had an interesting take on that character and felt like I could have done a good job of playing Christian Grey, otherwise I wouldn't have taken it on in the first place," Hunnam told Life & Style at the Hauding Film Awards in Hollywood Sunday. "When you put the time into something like that and a character comes alive in your mind, it's heartbreaking not to be able to play him."

He added, "It was definitely kind of heartbreaking having to say goodbye to that character and not bring it to life."

Hunnam also hopes that he'll be able to watch the "Fifty Shades of Grey" movie at the premiere.

"If they invite me to the premiere, I will go and see it there," Hunnam said. "If not, I'll go and buy some tickets on opening night."

The "Fifty Shades of Grey" movie is scheduled to release on February 14, 2015. Dakota Johnson will co-star as Anastasia Steele.

Despite Hunnam's broken heart, he has endorsed his replacement for the Christian Grey role, Northern Irish actor Jamie Dornan.

"I'm sure he'll do a great job," he said of Dornan to TMZ in November.

"I don't really know his work," Hunnam confessed. "But I know [director Sam Taylor-Johnson] is amazing. She has fantastic taste so I'm sure he'll do a great job."
