EXO To End 'Overdose' Promotions On A High Note This Weekend Despite Tumultuous Past 2 Months

The past couple of months have been busy and hectic for SM Entertainment's popular boy group EXO as they promoted their latest single "Overdose" and experienced a few bumps along the way.

The number one ranked song served as the group's title track for their second EP of the same name and dropped on April 15 in Korean and Chinese versions, with the album release following on May 7.

On the day "Overdose" was released, the twelve members of EXO held a live comeback showcase that was also streamed free through Samsung Music. After revealing the the first performance of the new single, the two subgroup's of EXO, EXO-K and EXO-M planned to promote the song separately and simultaneously in both Korea and China.

However, while EXO-M's Chinese promotions continued as planned, EXO-K decided to postpone the start of their activities due to the tragic Sewol ferry accident in South Korea on April 16. The EP, which was originally scheduled for release on April 21, was also delayed until May 7.

After EXO-M spent several weeks promoting the album through the usual channels - TV network music shows and guest appearances - they experienced another unexpected bump in the road.

On May 15 the sub-unit's leader Kris filed a lawsuit against their record label, SM Entertainment, to terminate his contract. As the legal matter continues to unfold, the remaining eleven member have since held their first solo concert and kicked off their Lost Planet Tour.

After playing three sold out shows in Seoul in late May and two more in Hong Kong the first weekend in June, EXO will wrap-up their "Overdose" promotions this weekend without Kris.

The June 8 episode of Inkigayo will feature the EXO-K and EXO-M members in a goodbye performance of the single as well as "Moonlight," also off their recent EP.

Following the end of promotions, the eleven active members will continue their Lost Planet Tour with two mainland China shows on June 14 and 28.
