New Windows Laptops Expected To Become Much Thinner, Thanks To New Keyboard Tech

For many years, laptops have slowly evolved from being a desktop computer alternative to the primary computing system for most people today. Its portable size also helped it appeal to consumers in a variety of markets.

When Apple introduced its MacBook Air lineup in 2008, the entire laptop-using group was shattered. How could something so thin become so powerful? This is technology guys, and it is constantly evolving.

Fortunately for some device manufacturers, they do not stop in developing unique and revolutionary devices.

Let us take for example this new keyboard developed by Darfon. According to the report by BGR, the keyboard made its debut during the Computex Expo in Taiwan this week, and it certainly received some recognition due to its unique design.

Dubbed as the Maglev Keyboard, this device does not use the usual parts which make up the keyboard and keep the keys 'returning' to their original positions before they are typed on. Instead, the keyboard uses a magnet.

In the report, the Maglev keyboard is incredibly thin, even thinner than Apple's top-notch MacBook keyboard. However, is the performance similar or better than what we have been used to?

CNET, which was present during the event tried the keyboard and said, "On the demo notebook that the company set up to show off the slimness, the keys were so close to the notebook that it was quite hard to type with."

In addition, the 'clickiness is just about right, though there may be some getting used to for a couple of hours because they keys are already extremely close to the keyboard's surface.

As far as durability is concerned, DigiTimes reports that the Maglev Keyboard can withstand up to 15 million keystrokes, which is better than the 10 million average which most keyboards use today.

The Maglev Keyboard from Darfon would not hit the market in a separate package. According to the report, OEMs for laptops are already working on some newer laptop models, which means we will be seeing this keyboard in new laptop releases by the end of the year.
