Windows 8.1 Update Deadline Nears; June 13 Cut Off A Must To Receive Further Updates In The Future, Upgrade Is Free From 8.0

The Windows 8.1 update deadline is less than a week away and users must either upgrade by the June 13 set date or lose opportunity to gain access to further upgrades from Microsoft. For Windows 8.0 users the update is free and according to Deccan Chronicles, users who have a purchased a license of Windows 8.0 should upgrade to Windows 8.1 at the earliest.

Microsoft earlier announced the Windows 8.1 update to May 13 is the final date for users on Windows 8.0 but changed it since some users were unable to get the update on time. The Redmond tech giant extended the update by 30 days to June 13.

The Windows 8 updates and patches will only be valid and for those who have upgraded to the base version of Windows 8.1, according to some reports. Users who will choose to stick with Windows 8.0 and fail to upgrade on time will be left out and receive no updates and patches. The end result for failing to update on time includes having a system more vulnerable to hackers, and malware and adware Trojans hijacking your PC due to an unpatched operating system.

Microsoft will only be giving out updates to the new OS platform with the base version of Windows 8.1, Decan Chronicles note. Windows 8.0 uers will not be getting any updates after June 13.

In order to do the update, users simply need to hit the Windows automatic update in the control panel and download the updated version for free. Users facing issues with the upgrade should inform their system administrators or reach out to their service provider for assistance.

There is also Microsoft help line available for users wanting to upgrade or needing assistance.
