SHINee Onew Recovering After Surgery To Remove Vocal Chord Polyps

SHINee member Onew is said to be back at home resting after undergoing throat surgery.

In a statement released by Onew's agency, SM Entertainment, on June 10, they explained the K-Pop singer recently visited the hospital for vocal chord surgery.

"On the 3rd, Onew received surgery to remove vocal chord polyps and vocal fold mucosa reconstruction at a hospital in Seoul," said SM Entertainment.

He also is said to be recovering well at home. "After leaving the hospital, he is current resting," continued the statement. "There is no effect on his daily life and he will be receiving outpatient treatment."

According to the agency, Onew will be taking a professional break as he recovers.

News of the SHINee member's surgery comes after he was noticeably absent from the group's recent performance at the Music Bank World Tour in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on June 7.

Onew is reportedly expected to take a break from activities with his group until his throat and vocal chords have healed. The recent surgery has also disrupted his plans to appear in the staging of the musical Singin' in the Rain this summer in Seoul.

SHINee is planning to tour Japan for the third time in the end of this year as a follow up to their tenth Japanese single "Lucky Star" due out on June 25. The tour will kick off on September 28 in Chiba and will conclude in Kobe on December 14.

Plans for the tour, including Onew, likely will not change as a result of recent surgery.
