Pacquiao Vs Mayweather Fight In Dubai A Scam? Bob Arum Skeptical Over Alleged 'Prince' Stating He's 'Met A Fake Prince From Brooklyn'

The reported fight between Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather, Jr. is poised to make historical numbers in pay-per-view whenever-or if ever-it takes place. An ambitious 'prince' from Dubai has reportedly declared that he will stage the fight in the famed Arab city.

UAE fight promoter Prince Amir Shafipour was the organizer of the inaugural GFC series, a multi-million-dirham (UAE currency) kick-boxing series that has dates in Dubai, Turkey, Holland and Morocco, where the winner of each event will eventually meet in a Grand Prix final in Australia worth $1 million.

He told Gulf News: "I will honestly and truthfully tell you that if anyone can convince them to fight, and to fight in Dubai, I can," he said. "I have a lot of worldwide connections, with managers, promoters, fighters, people in the business, who speak the same language that Mayweather and Pacquiao are speaking. "

He shares his tactic of persuasion: "You have to be on the same page as them and only then will you get their attention."

He proudly declares: "We have shown fight fans in Dubai, the UAE, what we are capable of doing with the Global Fighting Championships. We brought some of the best K-1 fighters to Dubai and they put on a terrific show for a million dirham bonus, in addition to the big appearance money they collected. This was just the start. This will culminate in the biggest fight ever, between Pacquiao and Mayweather."

However, Manny Pacquiao promoter and head of Top Rank is not jumping for joy. He talks to the ABS-CBN, a TV network in the Philippines: "I don't know who this fellow is and he's never talked to me or anybody in the Pacquiao camp. But over the years, we have met more alleged princes from Dubai than there are princes from Duba."

He shares a story about an alleged 'prince'  from Dubai who presented him with an Iphone:

"But he was as much a prince as you are. The last guy says he was a prince from Dubai. Turned out he was born from Brooklyn, New York."

"It's a scam (referring to the Brooklyn guy). I don't know about this fellow. Maybe he is honest, maybe he is not honest. If they're legitimate, why wouldn't we be willing to talk with them and negotiate with them? But I'm very, very skeptical."

Part of being a promoter is to discern legitimate offers from bogus ones. Pacquiao has complete faith in Arum, so he has to be extra-cautious as he is in this case. Arum also adds that there was no formal communication addressed to him from the camp of Shafipour.
