Angelina Jolie Is Now Dame Angie; Queen Elizabeth Bestows Angeline Jolie, Maggie Smith With Honors; Daniel Day Lewis Knighted; Maggie Smith

Angeline Jolie is a real dame. You can't call her that, because she's not British, but the actress/activist was recognized by the Queen for her humanitarian work. Daniel Day Lewis was knighted at royal celebration.

Oscar winning actress, activist and mother of six, Angelina Jolie was named an honorary dame for services to UK foreign policy and campaigning to end sexual violence in war zones.

"To receive an honor related to foreign policy means a great deal to me, as it is what I wish to dedicate my working life to," Jolie said in a statement. "Working on PVSI and with survivors of rape is an honor in itself. I know that succeeding in our goals will take a lifetime, and I am dedicated to it for all of mine."

Jolie was named an honorary Dame Commander of the Most Distinguished Order of St. Michael and St. George for extraordinary service to U.K. foreign policy. Jolie won a supporting actress Academy Award in 2000 for "Girl, Interrupted." She has been acting less so she could focus on humanitarian work.

Daniel Day Lewis, the first person to win three best actor Oscars, was knighted for his services to drama. You can now call him Sir Daniel. You can't call Angelina Jolie dame because she is a foreign citizen.

Daniel Day-Lewis won Academy Awards for "My Left Foot," ''There Will Be Blood" and "Lincoln." Sir Daniel said he was "entirely amazed and utterly delighted in equal measure."

Dame Maggie Smith was also named in the Companions of Honor. Smith, who plays the Dowager Countess of Grantham on TV's "Downton Abbey," was made a Companion of Honor, an award limited to 65 people "of distinction."

The Queen also bestowed damehoods on novelist Hilary Mantel, who wrote the books "Wolf Hall" and "Bring Up the Bodies," golfer Laura Davies and for fashion designer Zandra Rhodes.

Rhodes said: "I think it's great to realise that your country appreciates what you do, I am very proud to be British and I'm an amazing royalist, so it will be quite fabulous."

Jolie co-chaired a global summit to end sexual violence in conflict in London this week. Previous U.S recipients of honorary knighthoods include director Steven Spielberg, Bill Gates and former President Ronald Reagan.
