Michael Schumacher Awakens From Coma After Five Months, Seven Time World Champion F1 Driver Faces Arduous Recovery In Months Ahead [PHOTO]

Seven time Formula One World Champion Michael Schumacher is out of a coma and has been transferred to a Swiss Hospital. Schumacher sustained his injury while skiing in the Alps resort of Meribel this past December. While in a coma he underwent two brain surgeries to remove blood clots from his brain, and until yesterday has  been staying at a French hospital in Grenoble.

"Michael has left ... to continue his long phase of rehabilitation," according to his manager Sabine Kehm.

The 45 year old will begin his long rehabilitation at a hospital in Lausanne Switzerland, who, in the interest of the Schumacher's privacy, have not released any details."The family also wishes to thank all the people who have sent Michael all the many good wishes. ... We are sure it helped him," it added. "For the future we ask for understanding that his further rehabilitation will take place away from the public eye," it added.

In January an investigation by a French prosecutor deemed that speed was not the reason for the race car driver's fall. They say Schumacher, an experience skiier, likely hit a rock while traversing between two drop-offs. This is what caused him to launch face first into another rock, where he sustained the brain injury. Schumacher nearly fell off the edge of the cliff. This was discovered in part, by using footage from his camera helmet.

As she has previously expressed, Schumacher's agent has asked that the racing legend be allowed to recover away from the public eye. "The family also wishes to thank all the people who have sent Michael all the many good wishes," Kehm said. "We are sure it helped him. For the future we ask for understanding that his further rehabilitation will take place away from the public eye."

Schumacher retired from racing in 2012. His rehabilitation will likely take some time.
