Asus Transformer Book T100 Review: Specs & Performance Of Budget Friendly Convertible Made It A Success; Would Future 2-in-1 Devices Make A Mark?

Asus Transformer Book T100 review: The specs, price and performance of the 2-in-1 convertible Asus Transformer Book T100 has been a hit for both tech reviewers and consumer alike, making it a successful product release for Asus.

Though the design of the unit is not one worth showing off, the reception and praise it has garnered has seemingly encouraged the company to continue crunching similar convertibles.

Presumably banking on the heels of T100’s success, Asus has launched the Asus Transformer Book T200TA, which is a slightly larger version of the 2-in-1 laptop and tablet hybrid, and also bearing a competitive price.

The question though is: Would future 2-in-1 devices like the T200TA also make a mark?

The affordable Asus Transformer Book T100 is deemed a productive workstation, though it won’t impress in its design and built, it delivers well in performance. The unit features a 10.1-inch HD display a battery life that could last up to 10 hours.

As the fifth largest PC maker in the world, it won’t be surprising if Asus aims to deliver and create more convertibles to capture the Windows 8.1 tablets market.

The success of the Asus Transformer Book T100 is partially thanks to the Intel Atom processor and Windows 8.1 that’s running it. The machine has move faster and more gracefully than a user can imagine.

In terms of more spec details, Phone Arena notes that Asus Transformer Book T100 include a 10.1-inch HD display with IPS and multi-touch capabilities, a 1.2MP camera and the Windows 8.1 OS with MS Home Office & Student 2013. It’s powered with a Quad core Intel Atom processor with 2GB of memory and Intel HD graphics. As earlier stated, the battery for the Asus Transformer Book T100 can last up to 10 hours. In terms of specs, it’s one of the best windows convertibles around.

ZDNet has selected the Asus Transformer Book T100 as one of the best tablets for 2013, noting that the $399 price of the unit is a full $70 less than a entry-level Surface 2 tablet. Another advantage is that it runs on the full version of Microsoft Office and not the cut-down version for Windows RT, which is what powers the Surface tablets as well as Nokia 2520.

The Asus Transformer Book T100 is a convertible that switches from a tablet to a notebook, as it comes with a keyboard as well. Thanks to the long battery life, this is one machine you can use for a full day on a single charge.

According to Laptop Mag, the Transformer Book T100 is powerful enough to handle just about any productivity task. It notes as a plus for the unit it’s Solid Bay Trail performance, owing it to the 1.3 GHz quad-core Atom Z3740 processor it has.

A few downsides with this tablet/PC hybrid design is that the cramped keyboard feels like than what older models of Netbooks have, according to a review by CNET. It’s also not as fast as zippier, larger and pricier Windows products and that display for the tablet is not as vibrant.

A quick search on Google shows the Asus Book Transformer T100 in varying prices. Office Depot online offers a 32GB variant of the Asus Book Transformer for $349.99. It’s the lowest-end of the pricing range and much lower than what Asus usually sells it’s Android tablets for, which according to Engadget usually hovers at around $500.

CNET notes that this is not really a device that you’ll fall in love to, but for it’s sheer price and still notable specs for a new generation of netbooks, it’s still a great buy.

The Asus Transformer Book T100 is not by any means an exceptional notebook. But for the price and the value it offers, you’ll go a long way to being a satisfied and productive tablet-laptop user. Thanks to device’s great reception from consumers and tech influencers, there could be more T100-like machines coming from Asus.
