George Lucas Museum To Be Built In Chicago: Mayor Rahm Emmanuel Claims Victory Over San Francisco, Mixed Reactions From Chicago Residents [PHOTO]

The windy city is famous for its breathtaking museum campus on the shores of Lake Michigan, and Chicago is getting one more addition to its prodigious mall. Chicago has outbid San Francisco for the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art.

Chicago won the museum by offering Lucas a section of land near the Field Museum and Shedd Aquarium, putting it in the middle of the museum campus, which also includes the Art Institute and Soldier Field. Mayor Rahm Emanuel was quick to claim the victory.

Emanuel said of the decision, "George Lucas has revolutionized the art of storytelling over the last four decades and we are honored to be the recipient of this incredible legacy investment that will allow everyone to learn about and experience narrative arts."

He went on to add "Like Marshall Field, John G. Shedd and Max Adler before him, George's philanthropy will inspire and educate for generations. No other museum like this exists in the world, making it a tremendous educational, cultural and job creation asset for all Chicagoans, as well as an unparalleled draw for international tourists." You can see a full announcement in the video below.

Lucas issued a statement from San Francisco, saying, "Building in Chicago is the right decision for the museum, but the Bay Area will always be my home. I grew up here, made all my films here and raised my family in the Bay Area."

Not much is known about what the Lucas Museum Of Narrative Art ,but it involves Lucas' extensive art collection as well as various movie-related souvenirs he has picked up over the years.

Some Chicagoans aren't so elated. The Chicago Reader quickly put together a list of five reasons why the city shouldn't want the Lucas museum.  The list includes the fact that Chicago wasn't Lucas' first choice, and he only picked it because San Francisco wouldn't give him the location he wanted. The list also includes the fact that putting Lucas' name on the thing is the "museum equivalent of Trump Tower," and that it might not be "a worthy peer to the world-class institutions that would be its siblings."
