2014 FIFA World Cup: Brasilia, with huge number of volunteers

One thing that makes the 20th FIFA World Cup productive and efficient is because of the great numbers of volunteers from across the hosting cities and the non-hosting. There are 26,561 candidates who applied to take part in the world's greatest football tournament for the second and final application phase last September to October 2013. If you take the total number of applications during the 2012 and 2013 phases it will be a record of 152, 201.

The state of Sao Paulo has the highest numbers volunteers. Thus, majority of these came from outside the city. Rio de Janeiro came second with Ceara in third; taking into figures, the total number of candidates: Sao Paulo (35,738), Rio de Janeiro (21,785), Minas Gerais (14,492), the Federal District (9,706), and Bahia (8,741). Those are the top five states hence Goias is the top of the list of states that will not host the 2014 Brazil matches.

"The high number of applications from outside the host cities shows the entire country wants to contribute and take part in this historic moment for Brazil. Like last year, we're delighted with the numbers from the second phase. We believe that we achieved our main objectives: to attract people who speak foreign languages, the elderly, and Brazilians who live outside host cities," said the head of the Local Organising Committee (LOC) Volunteer Programme, Rodrigo Hermida in FIFA.com

Over all the applicants, there are 2,750 candidates that are aged 60 and over. There are more female (6,752) than male (6,481) candidates among the youngsters. The number of volunteers for this World Cup represents more than double from 2010 in South Africa with 70,000 and from 2006 in Germany with 45,000.
