2014 FIFA World Cup: A lot of first times for Group C and D

The face-off between Costa Rica and Greece this coming Sunday, June 29th, marks a lot of stories about their journey on how they reached their respective rankings for the quarter finals.

                The play on the 24th of June in Estadio Mineirao Belo Horizonte between Costa Rica and England was a draw. The team CRC secured the top spot in Group D. The final standing of their group is: First, Costa Rica with 7 points, 2 wins and 1 draw; followed by Uruguay with 6 points, 2 wins, and a single defeat. Then team Italy came third with 3 points, a single win and 2 defeats. The last team in group D is England with 1 point, 1 draw and 2 defeats.

                In the previous game between the los ticos and the Liverpool, Costa Rica have pole position to play for yet there's a lack of tension and force in early play for the both teams. Hence, England succeeded in getting their English fans off their seats with the performance of Daniel Sturridge who was so close in putting a score for his team.

At the end, the England waved goodbye for the first time since 1958 while Costa Rica remained unbeaten in a World Cup group stages, also a "first time" for the team's history.

                On the other stadium at the Castelao Fortaleza laid the match between the Greece and Côte d'Ivoire with the score of 2-1 in favor of the Greeks. The standing of Group C: Columbia is first with 9 points, and 3 wins. Next is Greece with 4 points, a single win, a single draw and also a single defeat. Côte d'Ivoire came third with 3 points, 1 win, and 2 defeats. The final team this season is Japan with 1 point, a single draw and 2 defeats.

                The game between the Greeks and the Ivorians showed off an incredible drama. First, the Greeks faced a misfortune of having two injuries. Panagiotis Kone forcedly replaced by Andreas Samaris before goalkeeper Orestis Karnezis had to go away and Panagiotis Glykos entered the playground. Then, Santos' charges back the Ivorians goal in the match.

                For the first time, the Greeks reached the World Cup knockout stages though it was a heartbreaking defeat for Côte d'Ivoire. The next thing to witness is the crucial battle between Costa Rica and Greece. The winner will advance to the final eight.
