Manny Pacquiao Steroids: Mayweather Alleged 'PacMan's Head Got Bigger' Due To Steroid Use! Was This The Reason He Refused Testing In 2009?

Manny Pacquiao is almost a national sports hero in his native Philippines. He has the image of the humble fighter (in stark contrast to Mayweather). But he might not be as clean as we thought he was.

The Pacquiao Vs. Mayweather fight continues to be a pipe dream for most boxing fans, and it will probably stay that way as Mayweather continues to invent different excuses (this time, it's Top Rank Promotions) to avoid the fight. But there was a time that it was Pacquiao who said 'No.' Curiously, the issue was Olympic style drug testing.

The back-and-forth statements that eventually killed the dream fight (Dec 2009-2010):

From Team Mayweather, who requested to have blood testing (what they termed as 'Olympic style) right up to the weigh in, which Pacquiao refused:

From ESPN: "Team Mayweather is very surprised that an elite athlete like Manny Pacquiao would refuse drug testing procedures which Floyd has already agreed to and have been agreed to by many other top athletes. Why would Pacquiao refuse to have the same kind of testing that Lance Armstrong, Michael Phelps, LeBron James and Kobe Bryant have had?"

Bob Arum in an interview with Grand Rapids Press: "We're going in a different direction. What I believe is that Floyd never really wanted the fight and this is just harassment of Pacquiao. We appeased Mayweather by agreeing to a urine analysis at any time, and blood testing before the press conference and after the fight. Mayweather pressed for blood testing even up to the weigh-in. He knew that Manny gets freaked out when his blood gets taken, and feels that it weakens him. This is just harassment and, to me, just signaled that he didn't want the fight."

Mayweather's personal statement on the issue: "Health is more important than anything. Because guess what? When my career is over, if I'm hurt because of something that has happened in a fight, I can't come to you and say, 'I need (money).' People say, 'We don't give a f--- if he's taking or not; we just want to see the fight. We don't give a f--- about your health and we don't give a f--- about your family. I care about my family. I love my family. They're going to be there when no one else is there. When my career is over, you're all going to move on to the next one."

Mayweather has maintained that stance even AFTER Pacquiao conceded to the drug testing. In a 2012 interview, Money May mentioned that "it's basic common sense" that Pacquiao is using PEDs or steroids because 'his head has gotten bigger.'

Bleacher Report explains: "For athletes accused of using steroids, HGH (especially HGH), or other PEDs, this is a common trait thought to be linked to abuse of the drugs. Barry Bonds may be the most infamous of all PED users in sports, and the size of his hats did increase over the course of his career (so did his shoe size, according to court testimonies). So the swelling of the head over time is definitely a red flag."

There were some comments that Pacquiao has stopped using PEDs now, but he used them in the past. This is why Arum, Roach and company could not formally complain about Juan Manuel Marquez when the latter had his 'second puberty' in their fight in December 2012.

Another angle is that Pacquiao never used steroids but he just used the testing to dodge Mayweather in 2009. The argument for that is Pacquiao's camp is now campaigning for the same drug tests they refused in 2009.

YOU be the judge. Did Pacquiao's actually get bigger? Did he really use PEDs or did he just dodge Floyd at that time? In these arguments, it's the fight fans who lose.
