Fourth Of July Fireworks NYC East River 2014: Will Tropical Storm Arthur Halt Fireworks, Parades And Celebrations?

This year, the Fourth of July Macy's fireworks show is moving back to NYC's East River for all of the New York boroughs (and not New Jersey) to enjoy. But here's the bad news. A tropical storm is developing off the coast of Florida right now, which, if it develops into fully fledged storm by fourth of July, the fireworks as well as the planned parades and celebrations will all come to a halt.

Daily Beast reports that the National Hurricane Center "predicted that a tropical storm (to be named Arthur if it reaches that status) may start pounding the East Coast this upcoming holiday weekend". The tropical storm Arthur will affect the Eastern Seaboard. Even if it doesn't develop into a tropical storm, if the rainfall is high enough, there will be no setting off of fireworks, hanging by the beach or grilling on the rooftop.

Daily Beat says that the worst-case scenario will be that "we'll be celebrating Independence Day just like the Founding Fathers did in 1776: without electricity".

Hope the weather gods don't pull a Hurricane Sandy scenario for NYC this Independence Day. They will have to answer to angry, barbeque-starved New Yorkers if that happens.

The announcement that the Fourth of July Macy's fireworks will be moved back to East River came from the newly-minted Mayor Bill de Blasio.

According to the New York Times, "Mr. de Blasio said moving the fireworks had been "a priority for our administration" and the East River location would mean "many more New Yorkers" could see the show along the waterfront, on rooftops and in parks".

This means that Brooklyn and Queens won't be left out of a "bigger and better" fireworks show this fourth of July, according to Amy Kule, a direction of special events for Macy's.

Fingers crossed that the tropical storm won't develop over the week to threaten this firework display!
