Waffle House World Cup 2014 Ban Brings No Luck? Belgium Beats USA In Overtime

The Waffle House World Cup 2014 ban brought no luck as Belgium defeated USA in overtime in their round of 16 matchup.

In a TIME magazine report, the Waffle House World Cup 2014 ban on Belgian waffles started on June 30 when it tweeted, "We don't believe in Belgian Waffles."

"The patriotic message was retweeted over 17,000 times as of this writing. And the Georgia-based restaurant chain did not stop there, continuing to tweet clarifications that they have never served Belgian waffles. It's also cheering along the American soccer team ahead of its do-or-die match," the magazine reported.

The restaurant also tweeted an image of waffles cut into the letters "USA" on July 1 ahead of the Belgium vs. USA World Cup 2014 match, along with the caption: "We ready #USA #WEBELIEVETHATWEWILLWIN."

The magazine noted that the Waffle House World Cup 2014 ban on Belgian waffles and its ensuring media campaign has been "extensive."

According to the USA Today Sports report, the Belgium vs. USA World Cup match went past regulation and the former will now advance to the quarterfinals on a score of 2-1. Belgium will play Argentina next on July 5.

"The game went to overtime after regulation ended with the score 0-0. Belgium scored early in extra time to take a quick lead, then added another goal. The U.S. later tacked on a goal from Julian Green to make it 2-1, but didn't score again before time expired," the publication reported.

The publication also noted that the US team haven't won a round of 16 match since 2002.

The Belgium vs. USA World Cup 2014 match generated much interest in the United States, with even the White House, quoting President Barack Obama, trying to stir the pot when it tweeted: "In America, we don't settle. We out-hustle the competition. That's who we are. Let's do this, @USSoccer! #IBelieve #USA -bo."
