Crumbs Cupcake NYC Closes 48 Stores Across 10 States; ‘Evaluates Limited Remaing Options’; Sales Sinking For Years

Crumbs Cupcake NYC: The famous Crumbs Cupcake store in NYC has crumbled, news headlines touted Monday as the famous store seen all over the city closes its stores for good.

The Wall Street Journal reported that the company is closing all its 48 stores across 10 states – the same time employees were informed that they were losing their jobs.

“Regrettably Crumbs has been forced to cease operations and is immediately attending to the dislocation of its devoted employees while it evaluates its limited remaining options,” a company statement said.

Crumbs has been known to be the world’s largest gourmest cupcake business with 70 stores worldwide.

It has shuttered dozens of stores in a series of retrenchments between 2012 and 2013, but sales continue having downward slide.

The company was born out of a “Sex and City” craze that made Magnolia bakery a household name.

Two employees whom the New York Post spoke to said that they were kept in the dark about the upcoming closures.

“I honestly do not know what’s going to happen. All I know is we’re open right now, and the store is full so I can’t talk long,” said one worker at Crumbs on 72nd St who spoke to the Post.

“I don’t think I should comment ... we’re still open right now, but I shouldn’t say anymore,” an employee from an Uptown location said, the Post reported.

A district manager for the area allegedly turned off her cellphone and wouldn’t take phone calls, one employee said reportedly.

The closure of all stores it seems has been unexpected by the employees and most certainly the public. No statement from the company on its website and social media platforms addressed what happened Monday.
