Amanda Knox Case Trial Update: Murdered Meredith Kercher’s Roommate Awaits Extradition Pending Appeal; Ex Raffaele Sollecito’s Statements May Cause Conviction?

Amanda Knox case trial update revealed that Meredith Kercher's former roommate is awaiting extradition pending appeal for the higher Italian court to review her murder conviction. Meanwhile, the statements of Raffaele Sollecito may be bad news for the UW student.

The Italian authorities might not be able to extradite her on the murder conviction, according to M. Cherif Bassiouni, Emeritus Professor of Law at DePaul University, who wrote in the Oxford University Press blog that Art. VI of the Treaty states that "extradition is not available in cases where the requested person has been acquitted or convicted of the "same acts" (in the English text) and the "same facts" (in the Italian text)."

However, the UK's Mirror offered Amanda Knox case trial update when it reported that Italian prosecutors are now linking the student with cocaine dealers, as they claimed that one dealer has already been arrested based on the information they got from the UW student's phone.

They also claimed that she was communicating with a "known drug dealer" prior to and after Meredith Kercher's murder, and was giving him cash "at an alarmingly fast rate." She was also said to have a sexual relationship with her supplier.

Recent Amanda Knox murder case trial updates are not clear whether this new evidence was submitted in support of the hearing on her conviction.

Meanwhile, the latest statements of Raffaele Sollecito might impact on the Amanda Knox case trial.

"The focus was all on Amanda through her peculiar behaviour," Raffaele Sollecito said in an interview with CNN. "In my case I really did nothing wrong and I don't want to pay for someone else's peculiar behavior."

Amanda Knox murder case trial lawyers asked Italy's Court of Last Resort to review conviction of the UW student on the murder of Meredith Kercher in 2007. The Court of Cassation might issue its ruling on the petition late this year.
