'Godzilla' Game PS3 Exclusive Release Date Announced For Japan, No US Release Date Yet: New Gameplay Trailer, Game Allows You To Smash Cities As Different Versions Of Godzilla [VIDEO]

A new Godzilla game simply titled "Godzilla" has been announced and it's coming to the PS3.

According to CVG, the new game, centered on the iconic monster, will be made by Bandai Namco. According to the Japanese website Famitsu, "[the game] will spawn multiple eras of Godzilla, with the player taking on various missions and destroying all manner of buildings."

True enough, in the new trailer we can see the reptile monster whipped into a super destructive frenzy. Running just over a minute, the video shows Godzilla wrecking buildings and leaving them in flames. The beast was featured in several scenes: taking down buildings by belching out fire, whipping its tail and simply moving about.

The outlet adds that players will be able to choose from "numerous versions of Godzilla to play as." One of the options will reportedly be the newest reptile monster which dominated the big screen this year.

Gareth Edwards helmed the reboot film which hit theaters just last month. The film packs a star-studded cast with big names like : Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Ken Watanabe, Elizabeth Olsen, Ryan Cranston, Juliette Binoche, Sally Hawkins and David Strathairn.

The reboot film also released an app store game, "Godzilla: Strike Zone" days before "Godzilla" hit the big screen on May 16. The tie-in game is a free download and is available for Android and iOS users, says Game Spot . The game can be downloaded from iTunes and Google Play.

Unlike the PS3 exclusive "Godzilla" game, "Godzilla: Strike Zone" won't let players be the reptile monster. "You begin Godzilla: Strike Zone by air-dropping into a devastated San Francisco. You must then perform rescue missions to save survivors 'before it's too late.'" according to the  Game Spot report.

Little else is known about the upcoming game with the teaser trailer being Japanese but CVG says that the it will be exclusive to Sony's past gen game console.

"Godzilla" is expected to drop this winter in Japan. CVG says that no reference to overseas releases has been made. So if you really need to smash cities, it may be time to get a pen pal.
