Mesut Ozil not only won gold at Brazil World Cup 2014, but also has a heart of gold. The German midfielder donated all of his World Cup winnings (over $600,000) to Brazilian organizations. Not only did he share his victory with Brazilians, he also made his long-term girlfriend Mandy Capristo very proud.

His do-good act was at first falsely reported by Middle East Monitor, who wrote that the German-Turkish player donated his World Cup winnings to the children in Gaza. While that is also a worthy cause to donate to, that wasn’t where Mesut ended up spending his money. His representative denied Middle East Monitor’s claims.

The Associated Press finally got Mesut Ozil’s story right. Rob Harris of AP tweeted: “Story spreading on Ozil WC winnings not true. @MesutOzil1088's spokesman told @AP that Ozil's donating money to projects in Brazil NOT Gaza”.

Mesut Ozil is getting a lot of international attention and love from football fans for giving back to the country that made his World Cup dream happen.

Turns out his girlfriend Mandy Capristo keeps him grounded. She told a German newspaper that “I need someone who is very honest. I was raised the traditional way and I take relationships very seriously. That’s not a simple matter in our generation.”

He responded to that a few months later with, “We are in a partnership. Partners in crime, so to speak. We share the same sense of humor. We take our relationship very seriously, but not so much ourselves as people.”

Mandy Capristo moved to London to be closer to her boyfriend.
