Lucas in 2017 to 2022: SMROOKIES, Debut in NCT, WayV, SuperM

In 2017, Chinese-Thai idol Wong Yukhei, popularly known as Lucas, was first introduced as a prospective member of NCT after joining SMROOKIES, a pre-debut trainee team launched by SM Entertainment.

With his visuals resembling SHINee Minho and rap skills, Lucas immediately gained love from K-pop fans, creating his own fan base when he officially debuted in NCT through the sub-unit, NCT U, in 2018.

With Lucas's idol skills, entertaining personality and various charms, his fame continued, and SM tapped him to become one of the members of WayV, a Chinese-based NCT sub-unit.

In 2019, he re-debuted with a digital EP, "The Vision," and established his much stronger fandom in China.

His impact was solidified in the same year when he debuted for the third time through SuperM, a global project boy group aiming to become the "K-pop's Avengers."

Unfortunately, his name was damaged when a supposed ex-girlfriend "A" of the idol revealed that she suffered serious gaslighting from Lucas.

The claim became huge as "A" presented transcripts of the exchange with him as well as voice files and photos. Amid this claim, more alleged idol's ex-girlfriends surfaced, sparking cheating controversy.

In response, SM Entertainment, the agency of the "Coffee Break" singer apologized for Lucas's private life concerns. Along with this, the idol wrote a lengthy message sincerely lowering his head to those who have been hurt by his past behaviors.

To deeply reflect on this, he decided to suspend all his schedules, declaring temporary hiatus.

For about seven months, Lucas completely "disappeared" into the entertainment scene without any mention from his co-members.

His last update on social media was when he posted a photo on August 29, 2022, through his Instagram. He uploaded a picture of a scene from the movie, "Top Gun: Maverick," without any context.

With this hint of his return, NCTzens (fandom) showed mixed reactions to Lucas's recent status after a long time.

Some fans left affectionate fans such as:

  • "You're finally back."

However, on the other side, some netters responded negatively, saying:

  • "I think it will be harsh for his fans."
  • "My heart has already left him."

In regards to his return to WayV, the sub-unit recently celebrated its 4th debut anniversary on January 17 but it saddened fans' hearts that the group's official SNS uploaded photos excluding Lucas.

Even Yangyang who commemorated the special day, unfortunately, shared photos and fan art of WayV without the male idol.

Despite speculations that Lucas will leave the groups, there are still hints of his possible resumption of activities in NCT.

Earlier, Kim Kyung Ho, a photographer working with SM unveiled an unreleased photo of Lucas, featuring his "WayV" tattoo ahead of the anniversary.

In Episode 9 of NCT Universe, Lucas was also still mentioned as a member of WayV.

In addition to this, Lucas' return to SuperM is also earning attention after SM Entertainment announced the group's comeback in the first half of 2023.

Based on the initial teaser, there are suspicions that he was replaced by a TVXQ member, but this rumor is yet to be confirmed.
