Sloane Stephens Says Goodbye To Coach Paul Annacone, Hello to Thomas Hogstedt: Shows Tennis Rivalry, Says Caroline Wozniacki “Got Ripped Off”

Sloane Stephens parted ways with her coach Paul Annacone and decided to work together with Thomas Hogstedt. The 21-year-old American tennis player sure is looking for ways to step up her game! Sloane Stephens even showed some rivalry towards Caroline Wozniacki, commenting how she “got ripped off” for a pair of diamond earrings.

Trying to get that fighting spirit back, huh Sloane?

In the recent interview with Elle Magazine, Sloane showed off how she got her pair of diamond earrings, which are “perfect stones” for “way less”.

Guess that’s one way of get your head back in the game.

Sloane Stephens rose to fame after beating legendary Serena Williams at the quarterfinals of Australian Open three years ago. Back then, she was just a fresh face from south Florida trying to figure her game out.

After slipping down from world number 12 ranking to 22, Sloane Stephens is still trying to get a handle on this tricky game of tennis.

World Tennis Association reports that “Stephens hired Annacone last December to take her game to the next level. The two clicked very well off court and in practice sessions, but couldn't transfer that into success on court”.

Sloane also made her own comments on USA Today Sports: "Based on the conversations Paul and I had after Wimbledon, we both feel like it would be a good idea for me to have a fresh start leading into the summer hardcourt swing. I've learned a lot over our past eight months together and now just need to meld them into my long term plan. Paul is one of the top coaches in the world and will remain a close friend and confidant. I can't thank him enough for his time and continued support."

This all sounds very diplomatic. Turns out that it actually was as measured and no-drama. Despite Paul Annacone and the 21-year-old player's great working relationship, on and off the court, the coach couldn’t really make her bring out the best game in her.

So Sloane is looking to find her A-game with her new coach Thomas Hogstedt, who had coached her rival Caroline Wozniacki for short three months. He also has been Maria Sharapova’s coach for three years, getting that tenure on the WTA tour.

With the US Open season bringing forth a dozen of hard court tournaments, Sloane Stephens is in dire need to amp up her game. She has yet to break into the Top Ten.

Caroline Wozniacki, 24, currently ranked world number 15, won the Istanbul Cup this month.
