Rafael Nadal pulled out of U.S. Open 2014 due to a nasty wrist injury he sustained during a practice. Stop practicing so much Nadal! Let’s hope that the defending U.S. Open champion cures this problem once and for all. Meanwhile, let’s reminisce on the top five Rafael Nadal quirks (wedgie picking, girlfriend Maria Francisca Perello, etc) that we will miss at U.S. Open 2014.

1. His wedgie picking

Oh Nadal. The only reason people stopped talking about your wedgie picking is because you are one of the best tennis players in history. This wedgie picking habit of yours became a lovable flaw that your fans come to accept.

But without the Spaniard’s mandatory wedgie picking at the U.S. Open 2014, tennis just won’t be the same anymore. 2. His guns We know that tennis is a bicep-centered game, but Rafael Nadal’s guns are especially impressive. Some have even said that the guns on his arms can be seen from the outer rings of the court.

Let’s hope that his unfortunate wrist injury is not taking a toll on Nadal’s gun-building exercises. He did reassure his fans on Facebook that he will continue to train and return to his top form. Yes, please keep those guns in tip top shape.

3. His rarely seen girlfriend Maria ‘Xisca’ Francisca Perello

Rafa’s girlfriend Maria ‘Xisca’ Francisca Perello is a rare breed of sports girlfriend. She doesn’t like public events, being an arm candy for his tennis beau or getting more attention for her famous connection. She never appears in public… unless it’s for one of Rafael Nadal’s (semi final or above) matches. If Rafael Nadal is not coming to U.S. Open 2014, then his girlfriend Xisca is definitely not coming either.

4. He won’t be able to defend his U.S. Open title This is a sad fact that we’ve all come to accept. Rafael Nadal, the champion of U.S. Open 2013, will not be able to defend his title.

And he won’t be able to take another picture with Michelle Obama. I’m sure FLOTUS is very disappointed.

5. His Spanish accent

What are we going to do with Rafa Nadal’s cute Spanish lilt U.S. Open 2014 press conferences? Especially when he tries to crack jokes that aren’t very funny. Somehow those were acceptable in a Spanish accent executed by Rafael Nadal himself.
