The hacking operation that lead to the leaking of several nude celebrity photos is the biggest story in Hollywood right now, and now the FBI has announced that they are getting involved.  In a statement released Monday, a spokesperson said, “The FBI is aware of the allegations concerning computer intrusions, and the unlawful release of material involving high profile individuals, and is addressing the manner.” Meanwhile, as an increasing number of the stars involved comment on the situation, it has become clear that many will be interested in pressing charges.

Kirsten Dunst is the latest celebrity to address the scandal via twitter, simply writing “thank you iCloud,” in reference to the Apple data storing service from which photos of her were allegedly hacked. As it happens, the tech company released it’s own statement, announcing that they have launched an investigation into potential vulnerabilities in their technology. Spokeswoman Nat Kerris said,  “We take user privacy very seriously and are actively investigating this report.”

The scandal erupted on Sunday, when an anonymous user posted photos purportedly featuring dozens of celebrities in various states of undress on 4chan. Jennifer Lawrence and Kate Upton were among the most prominent names in the roster that also included stars such as Rihanna, Ariana Grande, Victoria Justice, Hope Solo and Mary Elizabeth Winstead.

Lawrence was among the first to confirm that photos of her were authentic, when a spokesperson for the star said, “This is a flagrant violation of privacy. The authorities have been contacted and will prosecute anyone who posts the stolen photos.” A confirmation from Upton followed, with her attorney sharing similar sentiments and also warning of legal action against anyone who posts or duplicates the photos. Meanwhile, Grande and Justice have both claimed alleged photos of them are fake.
